This page explains what happens to the things you type into 2uid.net. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Profile links you submit
When you paste a profile link into one of the lookup tools, that link is sent to our server so the lookup can run, and the result is returned to your browser. We do not ask you to sign in and we do not build a profile of you from these lookups.
To be specific about retention: the link you submit is stored alongside the identifier it resolved to. That record is about the public profile you looked up, not about you, and it is not linked to your identity. Everything stored this way is information the platform already publishes on a public profile page.
Like almost any web server, ours records standard request information such as IP address, timestamp and user agent. That is used to keep the service running and to deal with abuse.
The 2FA code generator
The 2FA generator works differently from the lookup tools, and the difference matters. It computes TOTP codes in your browser using JavaScript. The secret key you paste is not sent to our server, and we never store it.
Be clear about what that does and does not protect. It means we do not receive your secret. It does not make the page immune to everything: anything running in your browser, such as a malicious extension, can read what you type into any page. A TOTP secret is as sensitive as a password. If it protects an account that matters, use a dedicated authenticator app or a hardware security key rather than any website, including this one.
Cookies and analytics
The site uses a session cookie required for basic operation and CSRF protection. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are used, which sets its own cookies and processes data under Google's terms. Advertising may be served on some pages, which can also involve cookies set by the ad provider.
You can block cookies in your browser. The lookup tools will still work.
Third parties involved
- Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site and handles traffic and security filtering
- Google Analytics, for usage statistics
- Google Fonts, which serves the typeface used on these pages
- Ad providers, where advertising is shown
Data about other people
These tools return identifiers that the platforms already publish on public profile pages. They do not reveal private posts, contact details, followers or messages. If you use the results, you are responsible for doing so lawfully, including under any data protection rules that apply to you. See the terms of use.
Changes and questions
